MINUTES OF 42ND ANNUAL BRACEWELL REUNION

Sunday, June 2, 1978, the descendants and friends of Joseph Marion and Emmeline Bracewell assembled at the Bedias Civic Center for the 42nd annual reunion with Ruth White, presiding.

Song “Shall We Gather At The River”, led by Raymond, accompanied by Winnie Steed; prayer by Arden. Visitors were recognized.

The inspiring devotional was given by Bob Weigundt with scriptures taken from John, James, and Proverbs.

Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Mention made of excellent devotional brought by Joe Bracewell last year.

Travis gave the cemetery report stating that the Mt. Pleasant cemetery is in good shape, having $2,095.75 in trust fund. He suggested that after expenses are paid for this year, the remainder of this year's contribution be given to the Bedias Cemetery Association from the Bracewell Reunion.

Joe Taylor brought news of the family and addition of new limbs:

Patrick Carter, son of Jan and David Carter Dooley, grandson of Pat and Betty Dooley.

Franklin David Higginbotham born January 27, 1978; grandson of Susie and the Late Frank Bracewell.

From Uncle Walter’s branch:

Mildred Powell had two children to marry since last Reunion:

Scott Gerald Powell to Kathleen Therese Ferrell, June 3, 1978.

Julie Ann Powell to William Dean Caton, June 25, 1977.

From Frank’s branch:

Judy Farris married to Paul Pulliam.

Amanda Gayle born September 9, 1977, daughter of Brenda and Johnny Whitmire, granddaughter of Hazel and Sam B. Farris.

From Uncle Elbert’s branch:

Melinda Ford, daughter of Dorothy and Buster Ford, married to William T. Blair, December 31, 1977.

Our hearts were saddened by the loss of Gladys Crowson Hall, one of the instigators and a most loyal member of this organization.

Hazel Dooley, chairman of the nominating committee, presented the following names:

President – Selwyn Bracewell
Vice President – Jerry Bracewell
Secretary – Druie Farris

Motion made that nominations cease and officers elected by acclamation.

Songs “Just As I Am” and “In The Garden” were beautifully rendered by Karen Schmidt, great granddaughter of Barto, to whose memory this session was dedicated.

Joe Taylor made a motion that a child of Joseph Marion be honored each year, with Joseph Benjamin, the second born, to be the honoree in 1979. The motion was seconded by Druie; motion carried.

Contribution was taken. Dismissal prayer led by Steve Rigby.
