Bracewells gather June 5th
Y'all Come
| The Bracewell clan will meet again Sunday June 5 at the Bedias Community Center for the 47th Annual Reunion. This years reunion will honor in particular Joseph Marion and Emiline's first child, William Barto and his children. | Barto's oldest living son Travis will serve as president. The meeting will begin at 10:30 with 30 minutes of informal visiting and coffee. The formal meeting will begin at 11 a.m. with a community picnic type lunch at noon. |
| | A great man, any way you spell it | | It is not certain (yet) how the patriarch of this branch of the family spelled his middle name. Cousin Travis and others are sure it was spelled Barrow. Cousin Winnie remembers it spelled Barto. He apparently was always | called Barto, not William or Bill. But it was not often written down. In the first history of the family done by Billy Peavy and Reginald Bracewell, they repeatedly used Barto as the spelling which has kept most of us spelling it that way. | The plow patent doesn't help. It uses W.B. Bracewell, as does his tombstone at Mt. Pleasant Church. We hope to someday clear it up officially. Until then we'll honor his memory just as much with either spelling anyone wants to use. |
| | BARTO BRACEWELL FAMILY This picture was made at Old Bracewell Place about four miles east of Bedias in 1901. Standing on the steps: Barto and daughter Winnie. To the left standing on the ground: Byron and Anna. Behind them on the porch: Ruby and Corrie. Seated in the rocker is Aunt Fannie Shanks Bracewell with Jessie in her lap.
