Dear Joe:

Im certain in my last letter to you I told you of my niece in Kansas City being a computer bug and really working the genealogy circuit. Julie has been working with about four different agencys in England and corresponding with some three different Bracewells. If anu connection we don’t know just yet. Than her biggest source of information has come from the Colne, Engaland library who have been most cooperative. They have even sent her picture copys of where my 3rd great grandfather was married in the Colne Church. Tis a great picture. Now for your information Colne would be like a county seat to you and I. Colne is some 10/12 miles from the village of Bracewell.

Now to assist Julie in her research I sent the letter you sent me 3 or 4 months ago from Mr. David Braswell on to Julie and I included the old article about Robert Bracewell which you had sent me some years back. So as you read her e-mail to me you will understand how she got the information she referrs too. Im certain you or David would have no objection to forward any letters or information regarding our history on to a good researcher.

Now im sending a copy of Julies e-mail on to you and feel free to forward it to anybody. Most likely you have all the informatiom it contains referring to Richard Bracewell and than Robert Bracewell. All of the information in the e-mail I find rather interesting. Some of your tree might want to contact the Keith Braswell of Popular Bluff, Mo. she referrs too. At any rate I thought sending this on would interest you.

Now as you know from our past letters my tree goes back to my 4th great grandfather and grand mother. John B. Bracewell was born in 1778 and died in 1845 and buried in England. We are not absolute certain but all indications he is buried the Colne church grounds mentioned above. He married Mary Jane Starkie. After Johns passing Mary and her five sons Hartley, Henry, Starkie, John and James all came to Americe in 1849. They landed in New Orleans and came up the river to Southern Illinois. Now broke and they did odd work there for a couple years until they had enough money to go on to Iowa and homesteaded. Of the five boys Hartley is my tree. Thus my tree is John B. Than Hartley now broughton and than John H who was my fathers dad and than my father Pearl. Now in Julies research she has traced back and now know who John B’s parents were and also Mary Jane Starkies folks and her brothers and sisters. John B’s parents were Joseph Bracewell and he married a Susan Hartley. We think now this is where the Hartley name derived from as its been carried on for years. My fathers name was Pearl Hartley and his fathers name was John Hartley.

In Julies research she found 21 John Bracewells listed and all were from the Bracewell, Colne, and Burnley area. She sent me the following list joe which im going to send on to you. There may be a connection and may not but you can cross check it with your history and see.
