Dear Joe,
Many thanks for your letter and for the Geological Survey map showing the location of the Bracewell place.
I agree with you that the location marked does not agree with the written description.
It is possible that one of those 80 acre tracts was the Wm. Bracewell place, as Travis in his account of their visit there in 1934, mentioned that J.M.B.’s home was “just down the road” from Wm. B.
My genealogy handbook indicated that county histories have been published for both Dale Co., Ala, and Laurens Co., Ga. I had planned to write to county historians in each county to see if Bracewells mentioned and if so, to obtain the book.
I haven’t worked on family history for past 4 or 5 weeks. Been reshingling my roof. Won’t get back to history for another 4-6 weeks.
Saw one early census of Laurens Co. where name was spelled “BRASWELL” in all cases. Will make a copy for you later.
Sent letter to Lynn B.’s last known address in hopes it would be forwarded. Hasn’t been returned yet. Keeping fingers crossed.
If you want to write them:
Laurens County Historian, Dublin, Ga. 31021
