Dear Joe,
From what I read in the papers its looks as though Texas has angered the gods. First they tried to burn you out and then blow you away. Hope this letter finds you and your family o.k.
I really wish I had something fantastic, genealogically speaking, to tell you but that is not the case. This summer has been rather quiet. I went to Eastman twice each week to teach an off-campus course and went by their library several times and found a good bit of interesting material but nothing that seems to fit in with what we know. Of course, some of it may come in handy at a later date.
Some of these seemingly isolated facts are:
Kendred Braswell and his brother Robert came from South Carolina around 1765. Kendred was granted 100 acres of land near Bark Camp in Burke Co. I believe, in Jan 1768, Robert received 100 acres next to this in June 1770.
Swanson Braswell received 287 ½ acres in Washington Co. in 1791.
Geo. Braswell received land in Burke in 1787.
From Roster of the Rev. Sampson Braaswell, upon certificate by James Jackson, was entitled to 250 acres, July 19, 1784. I believe this was later granted.
I am now between quarters and hope to get over to Dublin in the next week or so and maybe have more information to send to you next time. Just wanted to let you know that I am not completely idle. I am typing this letter in my office and the time is 10 p.m. Betty said I must be home by 10 so I better close. Keep in touch.
Yours truly,
Ronnie
