Dear Joe:
Looks like we'll have to pull in our horns on the spelling of our great grandmother's name! Our great, great grandfather, Wm. Bracewell, wrote it "Emiline" and within a few months after this census was taken he was her father-in-law.
I spent most of the day at the Federal Archives looking for the James family. Found this enclosed page by 9:00 o'clock this morning, then tried to find them on the 1850 census, but didn't. Trouble is, they could have been in either Georgia or Alabama in 1850. Note child, Eliza J, 10, born in Ga. And child W. B., 7, born in Alabama. I checked both states for A. B. James, and, on a hunch, for Allen B. James or A. Benjamin James, all to no avail. May take several weeks. Apparently (by ages of children) they moved from Ga. to Ala. Between 1850-1853.
No responses yet to my letters re descendants of U. C. Bracewell, but will send them to you as received, in any case by mid May.
Best wishes,
(signed) Chas.
