Dear Joe:
I am enclosing a revised list of the descendants of U. C. & Alice Bracewell. I regret that it is incomplete as to names, but I think the head count is approximately correct. There may be two or three additional things that I will pick up later. I suppose you are all too familiar with the difficulty in getting responses to inquiries.
As for the head count, U. C. and Alice are the progenitors of:
children - 8
grand children- 15
great grand children- 29
great, great grandchildren- 26
(at least) 78 !!
I will keep plugging away at obtaining the names and will send a second revision as early as possible before June.
No one has ever asked me for a financial contribution to the reunion itself. I don't know how you are re-imbursed for the expense you are put to. If a contribution is in order, please let me know.
I urge you, as president of this year's reunion, to designate some descendant of each of
J. M. & Emmaline's children to oversee the correction and revision of their family list. My brother, John, could do it for U. C. Bracewell. I was very tempted to put in some outlandish names-like Weisenstein, Korzeniousky, etc. to shock some into saying, "Oh, no, that's not right-it's Smith, Jones, etc."
I have access to U. S. census records at the Federal Archives Center here. You may be interested to know that the U. S. Census of Grimes Co. 1880, page 101B shows:
Born in Father born Mother born
Bracewell, Joseph M, 46 M Farmer Ga Ga Ga
" Martha E, 36 F Keeping House " " "
" William B, 18 M Son " " "
" Joseph B, 16 M " " " "
" Andrew C, 11 M " " " "
" Walter W, 9 M " " " "
" Uriah C, 7 M at school Texas " "
" Eddie F, 2 M " " " "
" Emma C. 9/12 (Aug) daughter " " "
I had never known that great grandma Emmaline's first name was Martha until you enclosed it on the back of the photo in your letter.
U. S. Census of Dale Co, Alabama, 1850, page 167, shows:
William Bracewell, 48, M, farmer, Ga.
Elizabeth " 47, F " (an arrow is
William J. " 28, M " drawn to the
Mary Ann " 20, F " name
Benjamin " 18, M " "Joseph M."
Joseph M. " 16, M " to indicate
Elizabeth " 14, F " our forbearer-MP)
Sarah Ann " 12, F "
Rhoda Ann " 8, F "
Nancy A. E. " 4, F "
Because all children born in Ga, I presume they moved from Laurens Co, Ga to Dale Co., Ala. between 1846 and 1850.
I haven't been able to locate Martha Emmaline James parents in either Alabama or Georgia. If you have any info on her county in Ga., please let me know. I would appreciate any information you may have on the early Bracewell families or their spouse's families. If Lynn Bracewell has this info from Reginald, I would appreciate knowing her married name and current address.
Best wishes to you,
(signed) Chas.

address correction: M/M Ray Smith (Buna Bracewell) -street is Shady Creek rather than "Shade Tree"
Having had no reply to my written inquiry, I telephoned Maedell Morgan Jennings at Killeen Tex. She provided the missing names for her nieces & nephew, but didn't know the names of grand nieces or nephews. I will be writing to Gordon & Morris for these.
Note that Buna B. has only one son-full name is Roscoe Falvey Smith. Goes by Falvey.
Please respond re James family info if you have it, and Lynn Bracewell address if she has Reginald's family records.
