This is a good place to start if you are new to genealogy research. |
How do I get started researching my family history:
Getting started is easy. Interview your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and ask them for information on your ancestors. Ask them specific question that require a direct answer:
1. What is the name of your mother, father, brother, sisters? 2. What was their birth/death date? 3. Were did the live? Keep accurate records. If you are going to begin in-depth genealogy research invest in a notebook/binder and file box. A tape recorder or video camera will help with interviewing family members. Last but not least..... Keep Every Thing. Five years from now that scrap of pager with someones name on it may be the key that you are looking for.
After you have some basic research go to the internet and search for additional details. Be cautious with your research and try and prove everything you find before accepting it. You can also join the Braswell/Bracewell DNA project to help narrow your search.
