It seems like a good idea to get as much family history as we can, before it gets lost and forgotten. This list of things to record is just to get you going. Don't be put off if it seems like too much. Just fill in what you can.

1. Surname/Family name
2. Given names

3. Nickname
4. Title (prefix)
5. Suffix (Sr., Jr., III, IV, etc)
6. Birth date

7. Birth location

8. Death date

9. Death location

10. Age at death if known
11. Buried date

12. Buried location

13. Spouse (full maiden name. If married more than once, list all spouses and children for each.)
14. Married date and place

15. Children (full name and fill out a sheet on each of them if you can.)
16. Parents (full name and fill out a sheet on each of them if you can.)
17. Notes, stories, etc.

If you are not certain, put a question mark after it or some note. Sometimes you know that something happened before a date (bef 11 Jun 1911) or after (aft 15 Aug 1855). If you are VERY sure of something, put a note ("from marriage license" or "from warrant" [just joking]). If you can, please put the sources of why you know, or why you guess, such and such.

Don't let this be a great bother. If it is not fun, you won't do it. I make it a game, like a crossword puzzle. Let's see how many squares I can fill in. As many clues as you may recall will help. There is a lot of information on the Internet if one has some clues to work with. Family bibles, scrapbooks, and Grandfather's drawer full of "stuff' are sometimes wonderful! (I have trouble reading my own hand writing at times, please make sure that I can read yours. If you can send it by e-mail, that has many advantages.)

When you get tired of it, stop. Look it over a day or two later. Often, you recall some more things. If you know of anyone that is interested in researching family history, please have them get in touch with me (address at bottom). I don't have the time to do a proper job of this, but someone should. I will send them copies of all I have. The software that you can get now, often for free, makes it very easy to do a lot. One researcher, that is related our Bracewells, has taken the records back to "Beltsa, born about 194AD, wife of Frithuwald! I can find the Bracewells back to England in 1484. If you can get on the Internet to have a look around try
http://www.ancestry.com/main.htm or e-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it for a list of interesting web sites.

To respect the privacy of everyone, it is considered bad form to publish information about living people. I will not put their name on the Internet or any public place. I use "Living Bracewell" or "Living Smith", etc. I will just keep the records and may pass them on to another researcher in the family if one turns up. If you are interested in genealogy, please contact me.

Thanks,

David Heath
